Being present during a woman’s labor and birth, and providing postpartum care afterwards is a joy. It is hard work. It is not glamorous. But it is immensely satisfying if that is where your heart is.
Because our work is “On-Call” (like, we know for sure that we are needed when early signs of labor first present), our Doulas and RNs are ones whose lives can accommodate the unscheduled nature of this kind of On-Call. This is not a scheduled shift, this is truly On-Call.
Because of the unique nature of these roles at The Birth Center, flexibility and availability at many times of day or night with little notice is needed. We understand that our Doulas and RNs have primary jobs, have families to tend to, etc. For this reason, we like to have some good “bench strength” of available Doulas and RNs.
If you are a Doula, Birth Assistant, RN, or LVN, if you have a strong desire to engage in labor and birth support, and if you have enough flexibility in your life that you could be available to work on short notice, we would be glad to talk with you about joining our team. This is an opportunity to work with a highly regarded, seasoned Nurse Midwife whose Birth Center has been providing service to the greater Sacramento Valley area for over 20 years.

Each person on staff at The Birth Center is a highly valued part of our team. That is an intentional part of our culture. We have never been a big team, but we are a team that strives for excellence, that is a fully dedicated, loves what we do and is committed to following the high standards of The Birth Center protocols and direction of its Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Ruth Cummings.
