It all starts when...
Around the 12th week of pregnancy, you will be scheduled for your initial exam. This appointment is extensive and lasts from one to one-and-a-half hours. During this time, a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) will review with you your health history and desires or your care and birth.
Subsequent prenatal exams continue once a month throughout the pregnancy until about 30 weeks when appointments will be scheduled every 2 weeks, until about 37 weeks when you will be seen once a week until you give birth. Our typical prenatal appointment is approximately 30 minutes (as compared to 10 minutes with a traditional OB/GYN).
In addition to health check-ups, prenatal visits serve as an opportunity for clients to develop rapport with their CNM, discuss birth plans, and get any questions or concerned addressed face to face.
