birth

It's not pain. it's power.

When you think you are in labor, you will call the Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) on call for The Birth Center, and she will assess if you are ready to come to the center. Once you arrive at the center, the CNM performs a preliminary examination, and clients are generally admitted when dilated five to six centimeters and contractions are confirmed. You will be assisted during labor with position changes, shower, birth stool, and perhaps most importantly, use of the water birth tub. We have found at The Birth Center, that, beyond the hope for an unmedicated birth, the hope for a water birth brings many expectant women to us.

You and baby will be continuously monitored and assessed by the CNM. One of our wonderful birth assistants/doulas will provide additional coaching and encouragement. When your birth is impending, a Registered Nurse (RN) will provide assistance with delivery and postpartum care. The average stay at The Birth Center after birth is three to four hours.
